Just found this on the Roland US site under downloads and wasn't sure if it had surfaced on this forum, so here it is. I haven't had time to explore yet.

Paul Hanson Classic Rock Patches for the VG-99
Hi, I'm Paul Hanson, a Roland and BOSS specialist, and these are some of my custom patches for the VG-99. They emulate the classic guitar tones from a number of famous songs, and I use them when I demonstrate some of the great sounds that you can get out of the V-Guitar™ System.

Paul Hanson's Classic Rock Patches for the VG-99
Hi, I'm Paul Hanson, a Roland and BOSS specialist, and these are some of my custom patches for the VG-99. They emulate the classic guitar tones from a number of famous songs, and I use them when I demonstrate some of the great sounds that you can get out of the V-Guitar™ System.
It's probably a good idea to have your VG-99 Owner's Manual on hand so you can refer to it if you need help with any of the instructions in this document.

Before You Begin

To load these patches into your VG-99, you'll need to connect to a USB-equipped computer running Windows XP/Vista or Mac OS 10.2.3 (or later). To prepare for this, you'll need to do the following.
Set the VG-99's USB Driver mode:•
1. Press SYSTEM on the VG-99's front panel
2. Use the PAGE buttons to select Page 2. (The current page number is shown in the upper right-hand 2 corner of the display.)
3. Press F2 (USB)
4. Use the PAGE buttons to select Page 2
5. Use the F1 knob or button to set the Driver Mode to "ADVANC." "PLEASE RESTART" will be displayed briefly.
6. Turn the VG-99's power off and then back on again.

Note: If you've already installed and set up the VG-99 USB Driver and VG-99 Librarian software, you can skip the instructions below and move on to the next section.

* Download and install the VG-99 USB Driver for your computer's operating system— You can download the driver at the same place you downloaded these patches: the VG-99 Downloads tab at
www.RolandUS.com. Install the driver according to the instructions that come with the download.

* Download and install the VG-99 Librarian software. Like the driver, you can get it at the Downloads tab at www.RolandUS.com. Install the software according to the instructions that come with the download.

* Open the VG-99 Librarian Manual (included with the download)— and follow the instructions in "Connections and Settings" to connect the VG-99 to the computer, launch the VG-99 Librarian, and set up the software for MIDI communication with the VG-99.

Procedure for Using the VG-99 Librarian to Back Up and Load Patches

1. First, let's back up any user patches that you've already created. (If you don't want to back up your user patches, you can skip ahead to Step 6.)
* To back up all of your user patches— click the Read All button in the Librarian's Main window.
* If you want to back up specific patches— select them in the Main window, and then click the Read Selected button. You can select multiple patches with Command-click (Mac) or Control-click (PC).

Tip: Backing up a few specific patches takes less time than backing up all patches.

2. After the Librarian has retrieved your patches from the VG-99, go to the Edit menu and select New. This will create a new empty library with the temporary name "Untitled" plus a number ("Untitled1," "Untitled2," etc.).

3. Go to the Main window and select the patches that you want to back up. Then, go to the Edit menu and select Copy.

4. Go to the empty library window and select "End of Line." Then, go to the Edit menu and select Insert.

5. Now, with the new library window still selected, go the File menu and select Save As. In the dialog  that appears, give your library a descriptive name and save it to a place on your computer that you'll remember. This backs up all of your custom patches, and you can reopen this file to reload them back into your VG-99 whenever you like.

6. Go to the File menu and select Open. In the dialog that appears, navigate to the "VG99_20CstmPaulH"  library file that you downloaded and open it.

7. In the VG99_20CstmPaulH window, copy the patches there and insert them into any 20 of the 200  user locations in the Main window.

8. In the Main window, select the 20 patches that you inserted, and then click the Write Selected button.  Note: This procedure will overwrite the existing VG-99 user patches in the selected locations.

9. After the Librarian finishes transferring patches to the VG-99, close the Librarian program and unplug the USB cable from the VG-99 and the computer.

10. To learn more about how to back up, organize, and load VG-99 patches, refer to the VG-99 Librarian Manual.

About the Patches
With the exception of one, all the patches in this download incorporate the COSM guitar models in the VG-99, so you'll need to use a GK-equipped guitar connected to the VG-99's front-panel GK IN jack to get the most out of them.
Patches with an asterisk (*) in the patch name are designed for stereo use. To monitor the VG-99's output in stereo, connect the OUTPUT L/MONO and R jacks or SUB OUT L and R jacks to two separate amps, or to left and right channels on a stereo mixer, multitrack recorder, etc. You can also monitor in stereo by plugging headphones into the VG-99's PHONES jack.

Some patches also incorporate the VG-99's D Beam. With the factory settings, the D Beam is available for use in any patch. However, it can be disabled on a system-wide level. To make sure the D Beam is not disabled, use the following procedure:

1. Press SYSTEM.

2. Use the PAGE buttons to select Page 2 in the display.

3. Press F5 (CALIB).

4. Use the F6 knob or button to set D BEAM Disable to "OFF."

5. Press EXIT twice to return to the VG-99's Play screen.

ErupDBeam—• I based this on Eddie Van Halen's killer "Eruption" tone from Van Halen's self-titled first album. The GK guitar is tuned down a half step just like the album, and if you don't have a whammy bar you can use the D-Beam for whammy-ing. Also, use the ribbon controller to increase the delay so it feeds back.

GoJohnny—• This patch recreates Chuck Berry's 1950s semi-hollow body Gibson tone.

BrwnSgrG*—• I based this sound on Keith Richards' open G tuning. It uses stereo virtual Teles, one with the neck pickup on and the other with the bridge pickup on. Each is plugged into a different virtual Fender combo amp. The low E strings on the Teles are turned off because Keith likes to remove the 6th string on guitars he uses in this tuning.

White Wah—• This is based on Eric Clapton's tone during his Cream days. It's a Les Paul model with EQ added to make it sound a bit more like an SG. Then, it's plugged into a Fender combo amp. I don't always have my FC-300 foot controller with me, so I set the wah to sweep by itself like a phaser or flanger.

G-Weeps—• This tone is based on the classic solo Eric Clapton played for George Harrison on the Beatles song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."

Nylons*—• I use this patch when I play Mason Williams' famous nylon-string tune "Classical Gas." It has two nylon string guitar models panned left and right, with one guitar delayed from the other by 20 milliseconds.

Voodoo—• This is based on Jimi Hendrix's tone on "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)."

BridgeVib—• This is one of my favorites. When I use this patch to play Robin Trower's classic "Bridge of Sighs," people tell me I nailed the tone. It uses COSM models of a Strat, Marshall, and a Univibe.

Boston12*—• I got the idea for this tone from Boston's "More Than a Feeling" intro.

Numb Lead—• I based this tone on David Gilmour's tasty, Straty lead tones heard on Pink Floyd classics.

Cashmir*—• This patch uses the same tuning (DADGAD) that Jimmy Page used on Zeppelin's classic tune "Kashmir." Its two guitar models are panned left and right; one is a 12-string.

Hotel 12*—• I use this patch when playing the 12-string part on the Eagles' "Hotel California."

Hotel Solo—• This sound is based on the solos played by Don Felder and Joe Walsh on "Hotel California."

Bliz-Oz*—• This patch is based on Randy Rhoads' tone when he played with Ozzy. He always doubled or tripled his solos, so I used two guitar models panned left and right. Each is a Les Paul model with a distortion pedal into a Marshall.

1984—• This patch is based on Eddie Van Halen's fat tone on the song "Panama" from the 1984 album. The guitar model is tuned down a half step.

MetlAcstc—• I use this tone when I'm playing the acoustic intro for Metallica's "Enter Sandman."

Metall*—• I use this patch when playing the main riffs from "Enter Sandman." These are stereo guitars, so it sounds like two guitar players playing at once.

BlkHole*—• This is a stereo patch based on the "phased" verse tone used on the song "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden.

Get Fooled—• I use this tone when I play "Won't Get Fooled Again" by the Who.

Reg P/U—• This last patch I made for myself. It uses my guitar's normal pickups and gives me lots of gain for playing shredding licks.
