Thanks for the welcome guys. I think I've figured it out, at least partially. Can't work out what the double assign function is for, but hopefully all will become clear when I've read all the really helpful posts on this forum

Sorry people! I solved it quite some time ago and already sold it too :(.

It was an easy fix, I ordered new:

- http://www.neutrik.com/en/data/ethercon/ethercon-chassis-connectors/ - not sure about the exact model, but once you open your fc300, you will find that out, there are very detailed manual pdfs for each neutral connector

- http://www.neutrik.com/en/data/ethercon/ethercon-cable-connector-carrier/

and the ordinary ethernet cable inside. Any electrician can pull this off for you, and parts are also available pretty much everywhere specially with the power of internet.

Hi
After many years with a VG99 I am buying a used FC300. I keep thinking that there was some sort of update to the jack for the RRC2 connector but can't find info on it. Also does anyone know if the RRC2 cable came with the VG99 ? If so, I must have one somewhere.

If memory serves me correctly, it came with the FC300.

You probably do, ericar123.  The RRC2 cable is just a standard internet connection cable, often called a "CAT5 cable'

Here are all accessories that were inside the VG-99 box when sold new
The RRC2 cable was included inside the box with the VG-99




RRC2 Cable is simply a CAT-5 cable with plastic RJ-45 on the VG-99 connection side, and a Neutrik Ethercon connection on the FC-300 side



The RRC2 pins are wired straight thru on both ends

 when i tried a internet cable connected to vg99 with a new fc300 it would not recognize each other at all ,the fc300 (if i remember correctly)
received phantom power and also it would change cc# in its display
i eventually sold it and of course eventually bought anotherused one    this time recognized each other perfectly  but with no phantom power
have to use batteries or adapter

there's a rrc2 cable on ebay right now but it seems expensive for what it is

My VG-99 arrived yesterday. It came with a power supply for the 99, an FC-300 (no power supply), what appears to be a CAT5 or CAT6 cable, and a RAD-99. I'm throwing out the ethernet cable. I have good quality new CAT6 cables.

1. I found a Neutrik Ethercon shell for a few dollars on Amazon.

Correct - and access to an RJ-45 Crimping tool  (See RRC2 details below)

Use the Neutrik Ethercon plug connection at the FC300 side,  It will save the fragile internal FC200 PC Board just in case someone stands on the RJ-45 cable entry to the FC300


The recent Line6 VDI Ethercon cables  do not tangle  can work with VG-99 / FC-300 - AFTER you swap out one end for a standard RJ-45 crimp jack.

A. Yes, RJ45 plug, high reliability Neutrik made EtherCon type plug is used at the FC-300 RRC2 Input.
EtherCon plug and XLR plug both latch when using, Ethercon provides same type connection as RJ45.

I had the friendly folks at Altex Electronics in Carrollton Texas make me a pair of 15 foot CAT 5e cables with Neutrik Ethercon on one end and RJ-45 on the other (i.e. custom made RRC2 cable). They charged me $54 for 2 cables (included sales tax). I could have made my own for less than $20 in parts, but don't have the time. Nor do I own an RJ-45 crimping tool.

The cat 5e cables are available super cheap at parts express.  They are buyout and often odd colors...perfect for gigs to be seen.  Here is a 15 foot red one for less than a buck.  Parts express has lots of good buyout and clearance items.  I have a wholesale acct and use it allot.

I have used just plain Ethernet cables once or twice to confirm it works, but I still use the one it came with. I love that about the FC300. I get set up the stage so quickly, and only have 2 or 3 cables to keep up with. One power adapter, for the VG-99. One amp. One headless guitar. VG-99 in a laptop bag, the briefcase kind. In & out so easy.

Pedalboard's kinda big, though.

I guess I liked that when I bought it, but realized later that, dang, that's a lot of floor space. Good thing it only has that one cable. That makes it easy to just flip up and out of the way. I leave it plugged in but lean it against the amp when I need to make room for other folks onstage.

But the RRC2 is a standard "Ethercon to RJ-45 CAT-5E cable  - wired 1:1 at each end for all 8 connections

FWIW, I recently purchased a spare FC-300 RRC2 from the above B & H link. I chose a 15ft. cable.
I just want to report that this is a quality item. Reasonably priced (I did have to pay tax because B & H has since set up a fulfillment center in NJ where I live) But, for some strange reason, and I'm not complaining, the site says orders over $49.00 are eligible for free shipping. My order was not $49 it was $29.42 and the shipping was free!
