I was using GT-10 (not GP-10) with 4CM. Worked great as Boss GT-10 and GT-100 prefectly designed for 4CM. However a lot of weight to carry along with my GR-55. So now I've replaced the Boss GT-10 with a Boss GP-10 (without 4CM).

You could also consider a GKMX-41. 4 guitar (GK+1/4") selector with a buffered FX-loop (1/4" Send/Return).

Hey code.... I used a GT-8 with 4CM for a number of years.... only used the tones/distortion in the amp. Only used the GT-8 for delay - reverb - modulation FX. Sounded great. I would chuckle when people would look down at the GT-8 and comment "great tone!" until I pointed back at the amp behind me  ;D ;D

I started out thinking I could create a small portable rig, again with the 4CM, using a modified GP-10, with the Raspberry PI latch-up, with a DIY MIDI amp channel switcher...... then I got a GR-55 and started thinking about just using that with the 4CM.... ....   the headache is back... ???

Glennfin, I run the GR-55 to the PA mostly for PCM
and the GP-10 to my amp for regular guitar and 12-string sims etc.
Agree it's a real pity there's no 4CM in these units.
I miss my real tube amp sound however GP-10 is not bad.

I really a hope a future Roland 13-pin unit allow for 4CM.

Marvelous info on this site, which never seems to end.
By the way, kids, slight note on those with newer units, your warranty is null and void once you get in there so operate at the patient's risk.

Hey guys I attempted this mod but after closing everything back up i can no longer get an input from any string through the 1/4" jack or through the GK-3 pickup! Is it possible I've fried anything and is there a GR-55 service manual kicking about?
Please help :/

Fusion

Calling Dr. Elantric and Gummy, ER stat!!!
I cannot do it and I will not try, I know my limitations with the DIY thing. I highly suggest getting that US20 mod Elantric does and just keep out of the main unit. No harm no foul. Hope you can save the patient.

Could you post some detailed pictures so we can have a look at what you have done?

Hi,

After extensive reading of related forum topics, think I'm ready to add the guitar input output fx loop, and maybe  S1/S2 switch,  to my GR-55. But I decided to give a chance to Elantric alternative of preserve the unit original stock, without drilled holes on case.  I know much time (and a few great commercial break boxes) has passed from 2011 to now, but I want try my DIY rights,  therefore I want to ask you if still today recommend the (reversible) option of  USB pendrive door replacement with a metal plate, and if there are new ideas about, also if anyone has done it and documented with pics or posted info.

As said, I read back many hours of post about, even so any additional information is welcome, like what kind of metal panel, how to engage the internal USB connector to the new metal plate, ground recomendations, connections, and so.

I have here a old but never used 2-Port USB 2.0 Rear PC Bracket. don't know if would be usefull,
Also I got two (1/4 switching jack, plain 1/4) female guitar jacks from Jalco original Roland replacement ,  pics below.

Many thanks in/adv by helping and info!

GumTown, I suggest perform a reversible modification.

Swap out the plastic USB thumbdrive door with a new metal plate which houses 1/4" FX Loop jacks , remote S1 & S2 switching and a USB jack for thumbdrive.

Avoid drilling holes in the GR-55 , which only serves to lower the resale value.

Hi! I´m new here... I´m trying to mod my GR55 (1/4" jack input) to connect any normal guitar (and a Buffer of course)...

But why I need to drill 2 holes on the GR55 (Send and Return)?...  One doesn´t work? Im very confused in this point!  :-[

The buffer should go next to the guitar into the Send, right?

Thanks in advance! ::)

Because in this thread " input output fx loop Mod " - we talk about adding Mono FX Loop with Send and Receive

You should be reading the details here instead:

I'm VERY Biased ;) Admin please remove if off topic, but for those less brave and less skilled, instead of drilling, ruining warranty, possibly destroying the unit and lowering the second-hand value, consider getting a GKFX-21 as it solves the problem of connecting a regular guitar to the GR-55. The input Jack is buffered and the tracking of your hex guitar may also improve. S1/S2 always accessible using ext. footswitch.

Hi guys,

I read up on this mod and followed what everyone has done.

Here are my photos. Its working pretty good except that I have to return loop to the amp via the mono out (L channel).
Does my wiring look right?

N

Hi guys,
Hell knows if anyone will answer this.
But I found that running my GR55 as an effects loop via my send and return on my Hot Rod Deluxe, I loose a lot of the bottom end in the tone.
Would anyone know how to go around this?
Thanks.

I don't understand how you have that connected?.

Looking to do this mod, but none of the images are showing up in the thread.
Any help on this?

some are gone can not be retrieved as the OP hosted it then deleted the pics years ago,
its a  8 year old thread

Just start at page 1  review all pages for the remaining  pics as those are good and cover everything you need to know to successfully do this mod

Quote from: gumtown on June 07, 2011, 01:47:32 AMWhat would be curious is if a switch could be added to connect the Normal PU return to a hex input channel reserved for the GK-3 pickup, and having monophonic Modeling and PCM synth from a normal guitar. I think this would be possible.

KiaOra - post resurrect.
I've just put a buffered out/in to run a normal guitar through the GR55.
Pin7 -> unity gain buffer with 1M impedance -> GR55.
Because I also have a GI10 which takes a 13 pin GK signal as well as a mono signal and will generate MIDI off the mono signal, albeit not as reliably, I decided to try what Gumtown suggested above:
I installed a switch to route the buffered signal to pin 6 (low E string)- that gave me modelling tones with pitch shifting working, but no PCM.
I then changed the switch to DPDT - one switch to route the signal to both pin 7 and pin 6, and one switch to put 5V on GKVol Pin 8 though a voltage divider - I can now get a modelling tone, as well as PCM off a normal mono guitar signal.
The strings are frequency banded - as I routed the signal to pin 6, I get PCM tone all the way up to around D5/10th fret on the 1st string and then modelling works, but PCM doesn't.
When I set the pickup as reverse oriented (pin 6 on the high E): the PCM does not play sound in the lower register but goes all the way to the top of the fretboard on the 1st string.
Might need a 6 channel buffer to access the full register with PCM, but this already opens up a whole lot of possibilities.

Kia Kaha !!
The ultimate device would be a programmable filter which could separate out the individual tones in a composite mono guitar signal, and filter the tones to individual outputs into a GK processing device.
GK synth and modeling from a regular guitar jack would be the ultimate, and not entirely impossible.
Maybe one day.

The modeled tone with the normal buffered output running into the pin 6 input is polyphonic and runs up through the high register - I think everything is processed in the frequency domain here, like with the SY boxes.  There are digital tone filters on each string, as when you set the pickup in reverse order, the tone shifts up the frequency range for the same input.

The PCM tone is monotonic, and is the one that drops out quite suddenly - hard software frequency cuts per string.

Not sure how the GP 10 would behave, but I've started on the GR55 because I'm more bass-oriented. With the bass, monotonic output is also not so limiting as with the guitar.  Will move to trying bass mode over the next few days.  Was actually interested to see how a bowed instrument reacts given the very different nature of attack and harmonics.
