Selecting the input source and knowing how the BR-80's 3 analog input source work can be an initial nightmare.

With nothing plugged in the stereo mic's are by default the input source.

With a 6.5mm jack plugged in the internal mics are disabled, and you need to use the selector switch underneath the BR-80 to choose mic or instrument.
The switch will change the input impedance (high for instrument, low for mic) and adjust the input level range.

Now for the confusing bit (not really once you understand), if you want to record using the Line in 3.5mm jack, the Input record level needs to be set to "0", because the line input is inserted just after the mic/instrument preamp and COSM effects, and the input record level will mix in any other source (internal mics or 6.5mm input source).
Your line input source needs to have a level adjustment to find the optimum record level, as the onboard BR-80 record level only does the levels for the 6.5mm input and internal mic sources.

Same applies to the USB as with the line input.

The song is uncompressed, unED'q, and in the raw
http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?q=hi&songID=11144891. Gumtown's band playing a song recorded live with the BR-80

So i have been playing around with the Live Record mode, trying to get an 'average' live recording of my band.

With a little fiddling around, i have tried to record using both the BR-80's built in mic and the line in jack from the desk as well.
First i set the recording level so the level meter averages at about 80~90%,
then make a note of the recording level, which ends up between 10~15.
Then plugged the desk secondary main out to the BR-10 line in and adjust the level meter to 80~90%,
then increased the BR-80 recording level control for the internal mic's to 10~15, then tried recording that.
Give that sitting the BR-80 on top of the desk at side stage and recording from the desk main outputs will be very vocal heavy,
i gave it a try.
The SoundClick link is a song from the end of the night at a 50th party by my band of 24 years...
I play a Fender jazz delux V bass with the GR-55, doing the keyboard sounding intro and the Orchestral sounds in the second verse,
despite the bass having a really nice natural tone, in this song the bass is only the modelled tone.
Excuse the few glitches, there was a plate of cookies which no-one told me what was in them until after i ate one.
