QuoteThanks for sharing all of your discoveries and insights from your journey through the modern myriad of GEAR!

You are welcome  - but like U2 sang years ago:

"i still haven't found what I'm looking for"

But documenting the journey has been fun

QuoteI totally get the use for a battery operated pedalboard/gtrsynth/LED lighting rig!

Its a dramatic reduction in Single Coil Hum when you use 100% Battery powered Guitar Rig then a passive DI box into the PA

And boy do I love my old single coil pickups!!
To my ears there's nothing quite like them ;D

I know this probably deserves a new thread, but I'd love to power a gp-10 and a pigtronix infinity looper simultaneously. The problem being the infinity is 18v. Any thoughts or solutions for that?

In that situation I use two Poweradd pilot pros

One set at 9v for GP-10 and a second one set to 19V for pigtronix looper

ktat

I didn't consider this because of the 19v output versus the 18volts required by the looper.  That mismatch shouldn't bother the infinity?  Thanks for your help

Well, my new fun solution for the day is replacing the Infinity with a Ditto x4.  Can't wait to get it up and running!

I told Thomas Nordegg about my Poweradd Pilot Pro battery setup, and he made a similar battery powered pedal board setup for Steve Vai - who used at a gig in Rio last year

Great thread. Handy info here. Thanks.

One question please. Are these chargers allowed on planes? I've got a feeling a certain type are not.

Here's A Unique Tip for Traveling With Phantom 4 LiPO Batteries

Today's Tip.

How to transport P4 batteries easily through airports.

If you travel internationally frequently, print a copy of this certification for safe transport of goods by air for the P4 battery and you will have no issue going through TSA and onto airplane.

Enjoy and safe flying.

Continued Travelling with LiPO Batteries Guide

What I can clearly make out of the language available here, the main changes are as follows (although the documents state that the regulation is for cargo):

Batteries must be offered for transport at a state of charge (SoC) not to exceed 30% of their rated design capacity. This means that you need to deplete your batteries before you attempt to transport them which is a good idea regardless of the mode of travel (as a package or on board a passenger aircraft).
A shipper is not permitted to present for transport more than one (1) package prepared according to Section II in any single consignment. Obviously, this regulates shipping, but there could be a situation where this will apply to our LiPo batteries as well.
The Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has created a video that should be useful if you travel elsewhere and includes some basic instructions. At the same time, a certain level of flexibility is exercised before the changes take place but that is totally up to the discretion of the authorities on ground wherever you travel. I would also suggest that as opposed to what the video states, a LiPo safe bag is necessary if you want the travel with your drone batteries, I would not use the simple plastic bag shown in the video below:

FWIW, you can power the GT-1, GT-100, GR-55, GP-10 (and Boss pedals, and JS-10, BR-600/800, etc.) from a USB port using the following:

PROVIDED you use a polarity switcher, since Boss units (PSA, One-S pot, etc.) are negative center, positive sleeve)

5v-9v transformer

Polarity switcher:

(I powered everything from a battery power bank ($13) as well, except the JS-10, which I think needs more current..

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P7N0320/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm going to test it with a bigger bank tomorrow. After you turn it on, disconnect the bank and then re-connect is sometimes necessary, but everything fired up OK. But REMEMBER to get the polarity switcher...!!!

of course, the Ripcord should be available sometime in the near future.... maybe....

While Solar rechargeable is attractive , its only 10,000mAh  - its only 1/3rd the power of the XTPower or Poweradd 32,000 mAh battery packs

I recently bought a MixMart 24000mAh Power Bank from Amazon.com which has an AC outlet in addition to two USB ports for charging.

https://www.amazon.com/MixMart-24000mAh-Portable-External-Smartphones/dp/B01HEPTD9W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493745012&sr=8-1&keywords=MixMart+24000mAh

I bought this with the idea to power my GP-10 as well as some 9V effect pedals.  I was wondering if anyone has knowledge as to whether I'd be better off going with a power pack that has a DC out instead of an AC outlet.

The advantage of the MixMart is that I can put a 2-in-1 AC adapter into it and power 9 volt as well as 18 volt devices such as a couple of Pigtronix effects that I have.  With a DC out that has selectable voltages (9V, 12V, 16V, 19V), I'm limited to one voltage but I wonder if having two DC out packs that would supply 9 volt in one and 19 volt in the other would give me better performance than using an AC out with the units power supplies.  It might also reduce all the cabling the power supplies into the AC unit needs as I might be able to use two Trutone multi-plug cables into the the 9 volt and 19 volt packs which should be more compact than all the power supplies.

My main concerns are battery draw and noise quality.  So, 1) would a DC-to-DC pack provide better power efficiency since I'm not converting to AC and then back to DC through all the devices power supplies and 2) would DC-to-DC offer any improvement in signal quality.  The Boss GP-10 seems pretty quiet using the MixMart but if I can save on wire spaghetti by using multi-plug cables as well as improve power efficiency and signal quality, I'd return the MixMart and go with something like two XTPower MP-30000 units which are $90 each compared to the $130 for the MixMart.

NOTE:  I have another switchable voltage battery pack which is geared more towards starting dead car batteries but I've used it to supply extra power to my laptop with no problem.  I had asked Pigtronix if I could use the 19 volt setting on it to power their 18 volt pedals and they said yes.  Unfortunately, I may have gotten the polarity wrong or something else, as I fried my Philosopher King pedal and now need to ship it to Pigtronix to repair.  Would wrong polarity brick an effect unit or might it have been something else like having a lower voltage momentarily?  It doesn't have a 9 volt switch on it so I can't use it with the GP-10 so I'd still need to use another option for battery power.

QuoteWould wrong polarity brick an effect unit

Always has, always will

Use multiple battery packs  - allocate separate packs with power hungry gear. (I own 1/2 a dozen battery packs of various sizes / makes/ models) now

Avoid going Battery to AC inverter to AC wall watt to FX unit

That's very inefficient.

Yes wrong DC voltage polarity will kill effects

That's why I use a DC voltage inverter adapter

Thanks Elantric.  I was hoping you'd weigh in seeing as you've had considerable experience with this.  I'll read the link you included and will return the MixMart.  Seeing as you have the Poweradd Pilot Pro, do you have any sense of the XTPower MP-30000?  It's a bit cheaper than the Poweradd Pilot Pro but am I missing something in going with that?

XTPower, PowerAdd, Eaget, Intucircuit, etc.
These all come from the same chinese factory

XTPower is based in Germany - and serves Europe

Thanks!  I was just viewing the Intocircuit Power Monster 32000mAh on Amazon.com for $89.99.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011BGPUSI

I think I'm going to go with that one as it seems identical to the Poweradd Pilot Pro.  I've just ordered two Trutone reverse polarity cables, one L6 cable (to try on an HD500) and another Trutone 5-plug cable from Musicians' Friend.  The reverse plugs from MF are only $2.99 while Amazon.com is selling them for over $6.

Thanks again for all your help!

Do these also need that special cable adapter for the reverse polarity issue ?

I'm about to pull the trigger and it's crunch time .

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread .

I ordered a couple of reverse polarity cables from Musician's Friend for $2.99 each.  With no tax and free shipping, it seemed like a no brainer.  It seems I fried a Pigronix pedal by not paying attention to the polarity so this time I'll check the polarity of the power out on the battery pack using a voltmeter before sticking a cable in.  If it's a rebrand of the Poweradd Pilot Pro, then I would think it'll be the same situation which means you'll need the reverse polarity cable.  Why take a chance?

;D Me lleva ! - I hadn't tried MF -  :D That's the lowest price on those yet I've seen -   thanks
