Just bought the extension cab for my original ZT Lunchbox and can say that it sounds very good with my VG-99, but then again I ain't using sampled synths. Cube 80XL is also a good amp, but I haven't tested the Vypyr yet. Norway is pretty much a Blackstar/Fender country for the time being.
To V or not to V: That is the question.

By the ZT Lunchbox, do you guys mean that tiny little thing with 6.5" inch speakers!? Surely the bass can't be very powerful, or am I making the mistake of picking on the really small guy who's a black belt in Judo? I just don't see how that thing can push the air!

Also, datsunrobbie, I've been scouring this whole website for the info I need, but it's not here (yet), so I figure if I ask around SOMEONE might have had experience with a few of these.

By it self it's a bit honky, but when teamed up with the extension it's that small guy with a black belt.

I also use the ZT Lunchbox with the extension. While I would not recommend it as a bass amp, I'm amazed at the range and volume every time I crank it up. I used it for a while as the PA for a karaoke gig in a small local bar, pushing music from a laptop and multiple microphones, and got very positive comments from the crowd.

Edit - These go really loud can compete with a live drummer and sound great for small gigs. I got 2 for stereo!

I tried the old original ZT luchbox  - the one with the metal luchbox cab, back in 2007 at a NAMM show but was not that impressed.

Big difference today.

The ZT Amp packs a lot of punch and is the loudest amp in that form factor I ever played through.
Two work even better.

I was thinking of getting an iLoud at $299 - but when the ZT Amps for $169 each sale occurred i realized for not much more I could have a louder amp with better stereo separation  - I highly recommend them. Realize this is not the 20 watt ZT Junior, but the regular ZT Amp with 200watts and 6.5" speaker

Its controls are unique, plays loud to compete with a drummer with smooth breakup  / useable sound and its best to read the interview with  designer here:

Is the lunchbox a full range flat response amp, or like a Tech 21 power engine (a colored version of FRFR), or a guitar voiced amp? Is there a high frequency driver in there?

Elantric

No - just a single 6.5" driver in the original ZT Amp but it works OK for my needs, I would say its 200-5kHz  - but younger folks who want sparkly synths and pianos might miss the lack of highs which are missing with the ZT.

i understand the ZT Acoustic does have the HF driver - but those are $500 not $169 on sale

Interesting looking little amp but the interview grated a bit with me.

He's tried to recreate the characteristics of great sounding amps by varying the lunchbox's characteristics based on output/input/tone settings and then majorly disses modelling which, ironically, is what he's trying to do, albeit in a modular way. And no acknowledgement of the original metal box 6.5" speaker amp, Gallien Krueger either.

Glad to hear you are liking the ZT Lunchbox. I've used mine with the GR-55 for open-mic with a live drummer on numerous occasions and love it. I put the Lunchbox, extension cab, and GR-55 in a little suitcase (fits in the overhead even on commuter flights) with all the cables and have a portable rig that can go anywhere.

rolandvg99

Great sounding amp! I feel it sounds a bit thin without the extension cab, but with it it sounds rich and full. I also customized mine with four 5mm T-Nuts in the bottom to use with a Roland APC-33 clamp and mounting plate kit.
