Hey!

Our trainee Sander recorded two new videos that demonstrate Roland GK-3 used in analog domain:

The first demo is more on indie / pop rock side. 6Appeal set to modulate controls (drive and volume mostly), resulting in luscious vibrating harmonics. The sound reminds a polyphonic synthesizer set to arpeggiato or sequencer mode. It's all played in one take, using Roland GK-3 on a Schecter Ultra III guitar and 6Appeal polyphonic distortion pedal. The signal goes in stereo into two tube amps, and is picked up by trusty SM-57 microphones.

The second video takes us to the rock, metal and blues territory. Sound setting has more treble in it, cuts more, but is still full of rich harmonies that only polyphonic distortion can provide. It would also sound great, if you'd pair it with drums or drum machine, or live double it with bass lines from Roland GR-55 or other V-Guitar series stuff.

PS Hopefully it's OK to mention that we have a summer sale at www.spicetone.com and more demos and all.

Thanks for posting these recent SpiceTone demos.
I see his Schecter has the GK-3 mounted very far away from the Bridge, which in this application results in better tone and output when used with the Spicetone 6APPEAL hex distortion box.

Since no VG/GR is in the signal path, might be interesting to convert an old Dan Armstrong London guitar with sliding PU system, for mounting the GK-3 on a sliding rail, move GK-3 PU where the tone sings for the desired tone with Spicetone 6APPEAL

The sliding pickup solution is just fantastic!

We've been looking for something like that. Should convince a luthier to make a guitar like that for us!

But actually me (Vahur) and Rein, we in Spicetone assumed the sound from GK-3 in much poorer in the "official" position and thus attached to GK-3 pickups in "wrong" position on most of our guitars. The truth is, it sound thin acoustically when near saddles, but actually 6Appeal can beef the sound up pretty nicely.

So, all in all, the "wrong" position is a bit of an overkill.

Besides that, there are Godins with built in RMC pickups, and even special magentic hex PU like Cycfi or Ubertar:)
