Hi,

I just backed the PiSound project on IndieGogo. Looks like a promising project and possibly a great addition to the VGuitar toolbox.

Here's a fun little educational tool that also has potential as a mobile recorder. Pisound is designed for use with the Raspberry Pi pocket computer, and offers high-quality audio converters and a MIDI interface. If this interests you, then Blokas are currently looking for beta testers.
Blokas Pisound Audio and MIDI Interface

This isn't an audio interface for everyone, but if you're interested in Raspberry Pi computers or even building your own custom audio interface, then this might be the place to start. This audio interface may appear rudimental, but the specifications are impressive.
The Pisound features Burr-Brown Op-Amps for its audio converters and is capable of running up to sample rates of 192kHz at a 24 bit depth. High-quality audio is promised on the basis of these renowned converter chips, which are combined with a low-noise external power supply.
Utilising the Raspbian OS and PureData patches, the Pisound is capable of recording directly to a USB memory stick without a keyboard, mouse or monitor. I'm sure Raspberry Pi developers could quickly identify some further adaptations and uses.
The interface also supports MIDI connections and boasts a latency of only 1.3 ms. The latency for the audio converters is also impressive at only 5ms. This is all really interesting to see, but for me it's all about how users can further develop the concept, say by adding XLR connections or even built-in mics, perhaps. I quite fancy having a go – when I've got a spare minute!
More Information

Check out Blokas website for Pisound where you can also register to become a beta tester. Used effectively, it could prove to be a very cheap hand-held recorder for the field. There's no mention of price, but I imagine it's very cost effective as with most Raspberry Pi accessories.

We have reached our third and the last Stretch Goal - how cool is that!
As promised, we will introduce an easy way for you to play around with LV2 plugins using Pisound board and our mobile app. Like with Pure Data patches we will be posting some open source LV2 plugins on PatchStorage.

There are less than 72 hours left until the end of our campaign
If you know someone who would be interested in getting Pisound for a lower price it's the best time to let them know.

Progress Updates
We have been really busy working on delivering the stretch goals and finally, we have some tangible progress updates!

Mobile App
Watch on YouTube
For the earliest prototype of the mobile app we focused on the main and most difficult part of the application which also makes up the bulk of the functionality - getting a list of available patches from a service running on Raspberry Pi, launching the patches and getting the output from Pure Data forwarded to the mobile screen. The next steps will involve polishing the user interface, porting the app to iOS and rigorous testing of the software, so it works in live and studio scenarios as reliably as possible.

Pisound & LV2 Plugins - MODEP
Watch on YouTube
Even though we have just reached the LV2 stretch goal, we have already prepared an exciting project for you to try out with Pisound - an LV2 plugins host by MOD Devices (https://moddevices.com/) ported for use with Pisound. We call it MODEP. There are already 144 LV2 plugins available to play around with, and we have customized The Button to enable switching straight to the desired pedalboard. See http://blokas.io/pisound/docs/MODEP/ for more information on the project.

Thanks again for your support and stay tuned for our future updates!

It looks like these guys are offering the MOD software:

QuoteAs it should be clear for you by now, MODEP is an emulator that will allow you to play around with MOD system using your Raspberry Pi and Pisound board

Will this really give a  MOD device on a Raspberry Pi? It is worth an experiment. Downloading the image now..

Yes - Its open source, and the latest Raspberry Pi's are attractive as they have faster MIPS compared to the Mod Duo hardware.

Introduction

MOD or Musician Operated Device is "a multi-effects pedal that pushes the limit of your guitar, bass, keyboard or any other instrument to craft the sounds you want and reproduce them instantly at home, studio or on stage."

MOD is based on Linux SBC and LV2 plugins ecosystem. It has an intuitive drag-and-drop web-based interface so you can assemble your pedalboards as you do in real life. You can find more information about MOD workflow here.

As it should be clear for you by now, MODEP is an emulator that will allow you to play around with MOD system using your Raspberry Pi and Pisound board.

By the way, MOD is not only software, it's also a nice piece of hardware and the MOD team has done a remarkable job for the whole Linux audio open-source community, so if you like this emulator you should get the real thing @ https://moddevices.com.

Yes - Its open source, and the latest Raspberry Pi's are attractive as they have faster MIPS compared to the 2008 era Mod Duo hardware.

When I talked to the MOD devices people at the Musikmesse, they told me everything is open source, apart from the MOD Duo itself. I assumed this included the core firmware, but apparently it is not.

A Pisound hat and a Raspberry Pi together cost a lot less then a MOD Duo. And I have a Pi inside of the VController. Now it is getting interesting...

Major Pisound App Update! Wowza!
Today we are releasing a major Pisound mobile app update that introduces a complete new layer of real-time controls.

From now on you can tweak the parameters of Pure Data patches within the app, play with the integrated MIDI keyboard and map your external MIDI controllers on the fly!

Big thumbs up goes to @thetechnobear, for his amazing MEC software package, @shreeswifty, who has prepared additional set of great Pure Data patches, and to @mantasb our Android guru!

That's a cool piece of hat. I bet that would work well for a beginner or a hobbyist.
