Title: SY-300 - Question: What external controllers do you use?
Post by: Rhcole on July 05, 2017, 10:23:00 PM
Just wondering whether others are just using Ctl 1, external controls, exp pedal or MIDI. I am presently using the exp pedal, which is valuable but I miss using Ctl 4 and 5, especially for holds. I tried a Y cable with exp pedal and external controls, I didn't think it would work and it sure didn't!

I think you gotta have external controls if you're serious about the SY. I haven't figured out how to stack/unstack oscs using just the exp pedal yet, might not be able to do it.

Can't go wrong with a Behringer BCR2000
https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-B-Control-Controller-Illuminated-Encoders/dp/B000CZ0RJC

I'm currently using mine to control 56 parameters on my Spicetone 6Appeal on page 1, 32 parameters and 20 buttons on my Looperlative LP1 on page 2, and 24 parameters mapped to my H8000 on page 3.  The BCR2000 is quite an old product now but there still is little to no competition for it on the market really

Only an expression pedal dedicated to volume , in front of delay, reverb.
I'd like to have more options but I like the size.

I haven't been using much external control, but I do have an external pedal that I use for HOLD and an MFC10. So far I've just used the expression pedal on the MFC10.

EXPression pedal for dry/synth mix, and sometimes effect depth/rate control.

I recently bought an Allen and Heath Xone K1.
I got tired of all the large midi controllers with things I didn't need. Knobs and faders.(Yay faders)
They are also about $60 if you look.

Xone:K1
Width 135 mm(5.3")
Height 54 mm(2.1")
Depth 358 mm(14") 460 mm(10.2")
Weight 1.0kg (2.2lbs)

I am in the process of figuring out the mapping. More in about a week.

I have a volume pedal on the input and an expression pedal on 5.

Lumena,

That looks pretty cool. Obviously you need a hand free to use it...

BTW,

Look under the Patch sharing section to read about my adventures with the Exp Pedal recently. Dual Holds are where it's at for polyphony from the SY!

The case alone is $60.  These go for $249 dollars.

You're right. I didn't even realize that I had checked the wrong item. It was sitting in my studio in box and I felt really stupid when I opened it. Case has since went back and I should have the actual K2 in a day or two. I have high hopes for it. My plan is to use all the knobs to do programming - I don't think it's great to have to use your hands to change things live but after watching Simeon Harris doing his live looping setup I decided trying to jump around and play ambient music was not really a congruity.
Examples here

The k2 also will work with Ableton and my fishman so that I have a simple interface to crossfade 1/4" and midi sounds.

Read SY-300 Parameter Guide - page 16 thru 20

if that makes no sense then Read  how all Boss multi-fx use Expression pedals with their requisite concept of control assignments and effects targets

Hi! Thank you very much for your answer!. This is my first time here, and i recently found and read your recommendation-message. I will buy a stereo cable, i hope it works. it is great to know that there are some people who can help to resolved this kind of issues, because here where i live, it is hard to find someone. This "boss sy-300" it's a little hard to run. Thank' a lot!
