Ambient Guitar UK
« on: July 19, 2016, 03:31:00 PM »

I have been lurking on this forum for 8 years but never posted any music before. So here goes ...

https://soundcloud.com/ambientguitaruk/longest-day-dawn

https://soundcloud.com/ambientguitaruk/longest-day-strolling

These tracks were recorded live playing a Fernandes sustainer guitar with GK3 internal pickup into a GR-55, recorded via USB into Tracktion DAW on a MacBook Pro, then converted to MP3 in Audacity. During the recording I manually tweeked the patch settings using the GR-55 Floorboard editor.

Always fancied a sustainer - you use it really well in these two pieces.

What I really like is how the tracks develop and aren't necesarily anchored to root chords so they can develop more

Thanks for your comments, Smash.

Here's another track recorded with the same set up.

Sustainers are very addictive! I started with one guitar now I'm working on installing 3 more ( 2 Fernandes and a Sustainiac ) so be warned!  8) Using them with GK synths opens up a lot of possibilities too although one of mine is going into a Variax.

It's taken me a while to get round to posting this track. It was my first proper ambient recording, using my Brian Moore guitar and GR-55, playing live with manual tweaks to the patch using the Floorboard editor. As such it is full of mistakes, both technical and in my playing, but I have resisted trying to edit it, even though it is 34 minutes long. I've sat on it for 6 months and keep listening to it trying to decide if it is worth sharing. When I first listened back to it after I'd recorded it, I couldn't believe where all this music had come from. Just 40 years worth of absorbing stuff I guess, hence the title "Life is a Journey".

I hope you stick with the journey and enjoy it!

Another track, this time recorded with a Variax guitar into a Firehawk FX and played with an eBow. The ethereal sounds come from setting the particle reverb fx to 100% wet. The background loop is from the iPad app Bloom HD (by Brian Eno and Peter Chilvers), a four note sequence in the Vetiver mood fixed by the Freeze option. This was running in the background with the Firehawk editor app, sending audio via bluetooth to the Firehawk so both guitar and Bloom could be recorded together via USB into a MacBook Pro with Tracktion DAW.
