Today's Strictly Starkey column in SLO New Times: "D'Anbino Cellars and Steve Key of Songwriters at Play has a hot show cooked up for this Friday, Sept. 11, when local singer-songwriter Kristen Black shares the bill with North Carolina duo the Stringtown Ambassadors (7 p.m.; 21-and-older; $12; call 227-6800 for tickets). Black will be backed by Steve Conrad ELANTRIC (guitar), Geert de Lange (bass), and Daryl Vandruff (drums). 'We're going to rock out!' she said." The photo caption called Kristen "Rock Goddess".

Great gig tonight - should be on Youtube in 2 weeks

Yeah! I enjoyed it. A little hard to watch because the video sync was off.
But band sounded great and your playing was spot on in the duo as well
Loved the Epi . What were using for your light crunchy distortion.

They will provide a link to an edited / sync version - they only just started this "live' concert transmission , and I figure there would be "sync issues

At your end in Detroit, I assume Audio arrived slightly before the Video ?

Anyway - for this gig i was ready to play my PRS SE hollow body  / bigsby - but it sounded a bit shrill in the room during sound check

A few folks asked about my rig - I used my 2011 re-issue"1966" Epi Wilshire. Its one of those guitars that I purchased on sale, and it sat in the corner for 2 years before I decided I had enough with the original poorly designed "tremo-tone" tremolo so replaced it with a GFS X-Trem and installed GFS Locking Tuners, still using the stock Epiphone Alnico 5 Mini Humbuckers , I used Daddario 10- 46 on this and this guitar always sounds smooth. The guitar sounded better after my mods, but last year, this guitar took an accidental tumble and resulted in the neck separating from the body and a few splinters- so I re-glued the neck and the body back together, now it has a few "road worn" battle scars, but it now has a more solid neck joint and the tone and mojo "woke up" and this guitar sustains a bit more than before the accident . Signal chain was Guitar > Xotic SP Compressor (blend at "3" , Volume at "7") , then into Electro-Harmonix OD Glove pedal for smooth distortion , (Volume on "10" , Distortion on "1", Voice switch "down" , Tone on "4", occasional use of my Vahlbruch Twin Tremolo ( I purchased from Joe Bonamassa)

its a German brand with great buttery tremolo, and I used the built in Delay in the Roland Cube 80XL ( and chorus when we did the Prentenders tune - occasional '63 Fender Tube Reverb as needed when we did the surf tunes during encore.
Thanks for listening!

Thanks!
Around 7pm i sat in with songwriter Steve Key just as a last minute invite,  - completely un-rehearsed, ( never heard these tunes before )  just "wing it" live. Steve heard me play several times before and knew I would not step on his tunes and I have good ears.

EXH OD Glove

Into my Cube 80 XL JC Clean channel on "3", and all tone EQ knobs on "5"

We had fun - I look forward to hearing it ;)

No GK 13 pin for this gig - but I have used the GP-10 with my Godin LGX with same band  when we do more of an acoustic low volume show.

whippinpost91850

Thanks for the info. I almost bought an OD glove. It sound good. But alas I'm trying to cut down and not add to my live setup. So just Kemper and GR55
You did a great job sitting in. That's always fun and nervously exciting
Where will we find the synced version. I would like to watch the whole show . It didn't start till 3 hrs later in Detroit and yes the vocals were quite a bit ahead of the video

Being a guitar builder, I have seen many a cheaply made guitar become a very good guitar after a proper rebuild
