I had my new toy (Godin Session Custom) for close to two months now, and I am starting to decipher how to play with a guitar synth (not easy for an all-acoustic guy!)

I noticed that most softwares (except TP) are mostly demos, like Kontakt, and to get the full version of the "player" you need to spend more than $400.  It's a "player" mind you!

With the free version of Kontakt Player you can't create your own instruments or sounds, but you can play them for not more than 15 minutes, after which you fall in Demo mode. Even your own personal sounds can't be played in DEMO mode! I find it hard to understand.  My questions:

- Beside Kontakt free player, are there any other ones (free -- or cheaper) that could do just about the same thing?
- If I have to get the full version, should I go something else instead? Which ones?
- What about Kontakt Vs. Komplete Vs. Others
- I learned about Sforzando, is it good enough to use with TriplePlay?
- Or else, are there any free ones out there that I can use to play my own created sounds?
- Oh, and I forgot, what about the East-West Midi Guitar Series?  Could that be a replacement for Kontakt?

Sorry, if those are silly questions... but bare with me, I'm a kindergarten student compare to many here!

Thanks for your insight!

PS: Moving from acoustic to guitar synth, I think I opened a can of worms... but so far, I like the taste of it  ;D

Ive owned a version of NI Komplete for 10 years , but if you install all the apps in the FTP bundle you should have a suitable MIDI Guitar rig capable of many sounds and gig-able  if you use the right computer - the most powerful mac I could afford worked best. ( I7 Quad Core and 16 GB RAM and 2TB SSD drive.

a Macbook Air with only 4gb ram would not be suitable

One aspect of MIDi guitar use is the need for the very powerful computer , I get very disappointing results otherwise.

There are an overwhelming number of options for plugins. If you are on Windows there are many excellent free plugins. Just explore and let your ears be your guide.

There is just so many different directions to go: crazy raw analog synths, soundscapes, lush multilayered motion pads, truthful emulation of existing instruments. What are you looking for?

If you want to spend some money, something like Omnisphere is getting excellent reviews.

But never neglect the need for a powerful computer that will be capable of running a Guitar to MIDI system and triggering a large app like Omnisphere. look for i7 quad core CPU, and 16GB RAM minimum

Thanks for all the good info!

I listened to you all (from past posts), and got myself a fairly decent PC laptop: i7 (latest gen) - Quad Core - 16Gb RAM - 2Tb Hard drive - 128 Gb SSD.  I've been using it for about a couple of months now with FTP, and it works like a charm!  I also got FocusRite audio interface (thanks to Elantric!)

One question:
I installed DSK ChoirZ from http://www.dskmusic.com/dsk-choirz/
but I couldn't make it work with TP software. It says that the DLL is not recognized. I think I got the 64-bit (ChoirZ) but I'm not sure if it really is 64-bit. How could I know if it's 32-bit or 64-bit?

Thanks Admsustainiac!  You're correct, that's what I should have done right away. So, I just sent them an E-mail, and received a prompt reply 5 minutes later. Here's their answer:

ChoirZ is only 32 bits compatible :/

Any ideas where I can get some free Choir 64-bits sounds?  ::)

What if I want to create my own plugins, like VST Instruments, voices, and the like.
What sort of tools would I need?
Can the full Kontakt software do all that?
Any other ones?
