Just wanted to finally say that after months of breaking in that Audio Nirvana Classic 12" Speaker I'm ready to ditch the old EVM12l's for good. I've ordered a second one as well. The sound is just so much fuller. Granted the EVM12l are classic 'guitar' speakers and switching back and forth is a case study in the difference between FRFR and guitar speakers. The EVM12l is so nasal and mid-rangey. I'm powering these with a QSC PLD4.2. Using this for both pure digital music via Logic Pro and analog playing through a nice little pedal Pre-amp and Eventide H9 ( okay... hybrid system). I just love the sound either way. Very wide open top end and tight low end. No looking back. Just need to find a pedal form power amp to drop on the pedal board for smaller gigs. Maybe an ISP Stealth.... Has anyone here tried that one yet? The main problem with a lot of these small form amps is their preference for 4 ohm loads. All my gear is 8 ohm.

I just wanted to add my experience with Roland KC series amps. I have a KC-100 and as has been discussed power is important if you want to get the right sound and project it. The KC-100 just didn't have enough. It actually distorts a little at the top of it output. And when you max it out it certainly wouldn't fill up even a small venue. BUT it does sound good for what it is. Grand Piano sounds break up a little so the amp just didn't really have what it takes. Maybe a decent practice amp.

I got a KC-550... NOW we're talking. That thing sounds amazing. With that huge 15 I only had to turn the bass up to maybe 2 to get a go warm tone. And the Mid control really helps you dial in your sound. I really want an EQ or perhaps an Acoustic Pre-Amp to really dial in my tones... But that thing will run you out of a large room. And the ability to run 2 with Stereo Link just means endless fun. It's heavy... but not much worse than a 2X12 combo. It weights about 75lbs... I had an old Marshall 2X12 JCM-800 that weighed close to 90lbs. It's got nice casters so it's easy to move around. I may replace the tweeter in it. It's just a tick harsh. Not bad... but if you don't get the treble adjusted just right... a little quack bleeds in. Sounds great with my GC-1 through GR-55 and Antares ATG-1. Also sounds great through my acoustics with pickups and my Electrics sound great through it too. Especially when I run it through my Line 6 HD500X with some models. I'm super tickled with this amp.

Was going to purchase a pair of Alesis 112a speakers and the eBay seller no longer has any stock and has confirmed they are discontinued. They have the 15" version still but after they are gone they are gone... The Alto ts212 is now out and think that's probably why they stopped making them. Now looking to do either the Eon612 or the TS212. Missed the boat on the Alesis model...

OK, I've been messing about with my rig and I think I have it sounding ok, but I'd like opinions on the theory of this setup please.

Guitar =  JTV-69 fitted with an internal GK3

13 pin from guitar to GR-55
GR-55 guitar out>Fender HotRod Deluxe III (or guitar jack out to Fender Hotrod)
GR-55 L/MONO out>TC Helicon Voicelive Play GTX>mixing desk

2X RCF 10a monitors where the vocals and GR-55 modelled sounds can be heard on stage (the guitar pups come from the Hotrod Deluxe)

I also have a pod HD500 which I could use from my Variax out on my JTV-89 to the Variax IN on the Pod, but I thought 3 cables from my guitar with  a GR-55, a VoiceLive Play GTX and a pod HD500 might be over-overkill!

HecticArt

I haven't seen much talk around here lately about the KC-350.
I'm looking for a something a little bigger than 65w with multiple inputs so that I can run my GR-55 and probably a Helix when I get one through the same amp.

It sounds like the tweeter may need to be upgraded in the KC-350, and it's a bit heavy, but are there other recent issues that I should consider, or other options in that general size I should check out? Most of the recent posts seem to be for either smaller or larger amps.

The K4 looked like it was discontinued.

I had looked through the other threads that came up with a search for the 350, and they were all relatively old. The tweeters and the weight were the two issues that people seemed to report, but with the lack of recent posts about that model, I wondered if something else had taken it off of peoples radar.

The input configuration looks pretty flexible, and it's got enough power to cover a pretty wide range of venues from band rehearsals to medium sized venues. There doesn't seem to be many other options over the 65 or 75 watt mark before you get to the 200 watt category. The 350 seemed like it would be more popular around here.

I've been using a pair of Alesis ALPHA 112A , got them for $199 each 3 years ago.

I have been using a Atomic CLR NEO for a couple of years with my GR55 and my KEMPER. I find it works excellent and keeps up with pretty much most drummers and a Marshall stack.  It's only 31LBS

It's not the cheapest but works excellent..   I had a regular CLR before Beta Testing the NEO. I couldn't hear any difference in sound , but NEO is almost 15LBS lighter

HecticArt

The NEO looks pretty wicked.
A little pricey, but it looks like a great rig. Very flexible.
I'd love to find one of these in a store somewhere to try out.

The heavier weight of the other amps doesn't bother me since I don't play out very often.
My muscles forget pretty quickly how much it sucks dragging too much gear around.
At least I've committed to leaving my stack at home. That's a decision I'll never regret.

whippinpost91850

no I have no regrets for not hauling around a ton of equipment. I believe the regular CLR is about $400 less. I think It's worth checking out. But it's all relative to the tones you are using. There are other options

Beirne

I use a line 6 L3t. With a gr55 /variax acoustic 700 and a 6 string bass w gr55 in bass mode. Both sound great in the 2x10+horn line6 pa/instrument powered cabinet. It has a 2 channel mixer too, so vocal mic goes there also.

Jetplane

I know this is a long section in this forum,(13 pages on my PC) so maybe it has been covered, but does anyone have any experience with this amp? It's kind of tall and heavy(70 lbs.), but looks promising. It's a Leslie 2215 at 200W and 4 channels. I'm thinking about it, but it's awful heavy.

That's not heavy. Try lugging around an 80's, 130 watt Twin, at 130 pounds. That's heavy. :)

SVT Head = 130 lbs

Hammond B3 = 180 lbs

My band carried around a Hammond B3, two 147 (hi-profile) Leslie speakers and an SVT w/ 2 cabinets for years, circa 1972-76.  I recall being able to left the head by myself and seriously do not think I could have dead-lifted 130 lbs. even at that point in my life.  The organ weight sounds correct.

Does this all explain why I've been plagued with lower back problems in later years?

I know what you mean. These days I find it difficult to lug my 85 lbs Twin up and down my 20 in circular stairway.  :-[
