Here in USA, we are lucky to locate any source of any 13pin male plug majority are DIN with short crimp pins.
,the IEC type are very rare here.
But thanks for educating me.
So likewise, are there additional differences between IEC vs DIN 13 pin Female jacks as well?

Hi guys - Not sure where to post this...I know there have been cable posts in the past but a search didn't turn up what I'm looking for:

I'm getting "static-type" noise, volume &/or channel dropouts, & other strange issues. I think it's the cable & I sprayed it thoroughly as i know that's sometimes a fix. It's improved but still not right. I'll spray one more time but then i think I'll need a new cable. Can someone point me to the link to get a deal on cables? Are some more reliable than others? I've been through several & they don't hold up that well. Thanks for yr help!

I bought Isoprophanol to clean my printed circuit boards after soldering. Anyone here with any experience of using Isoprophanol for 13-pin contact cleaning?
But I got more gear than I need...and I like it!

OK I finally gave up & had to buy a new cable, + some Deoxit. I just noticed it is a GK-5. How is that dif from a GK-3 besides more $? Thanks.

GKC-5 cable  = 5 meters

GKC-10 cable = 10 meters

there is no GKC-3 = 3 meters cable AFAIK.

and of course the GK-3 is the Roland hex divided  pickup

Just for the record about various cable lengths. Shorter cables are better. Sound will degrade/meter. Roland states (US-20 manual) the total combined cable length between GK pickup and synth not to exceed 10 meters. If you have any device in between pickup and synth allowing you to use two cables in the signal path, make sure to keep the length down.

I bought several 5' DET cables, and have had no problems at all.

I'm having cable trouble... 1 string has distortion so I'm guessing it's the cable & not the VG unit. I've followed the instructions on this post but find it hard to insert the cable into the unit while holding the lock depressed as the jack is so recessed. Am I missing something? Thanks!!

WOW I have been experiencing a ´rumbling´from my cables quite often lately -it´s been very disturbing onstage - and using the method described at the beginning of the post, the contact spray eliminated it entirely. Thank you so much    ;D ;D ;D ;D  ( btw. I used the KONTAKT 60 spray, as I live in Germany )

Do you not think that a properly Pb high temp soldered stranded connection and good strain relief should fix this GND reliability issue?
Many folks are using a Roland US-20 Switcher - then they modify the US-20 to reallocate Pin#9 as a separate Ground Pin - which improves the GK-13 cable reliability for live gigs dramatically. ( modify the GK-3  / GK-3B and tie Pin#9 to Ground, then Modify the US-20 GK Input jack's Pin#9 and tie to Ground, and then modify the US-20 GK Output jack Pin#9 as a "No Connect" open pin) Remember that only the GK-3 / GK-3B employ the use of Pin#9  - All other 13 pin pickups (RMC, Ghost,Yamaha, Axon)  Leave Pin #9 as a "no connect" and list the pin as "N.C. Spare".

Hi Guys,

Update on the 13-pin plug and socket covers is coming soon.  Thought it best to remove the photo description for now.

Cheers,

Bill

What about Carvin 13-pin cables? Any reports?  I hope they are good because this week my first midi- equipped guitar should be here & that'll be my only 13-pin cable.

It makes sense. I will try that.
Thanks

PROBLEM: Roland GK 13 pin cables make intermittent noise when used on a vibrating stage
This video explains all the above problems.

SOLUTION: All metal replacement GK Input jack with full 360 degree surface contact area!

Gumbo will very soon be selling the solution very soon for GR-55 and GP-10 owners  - all metal GK 13 Female Input Jack with full 360 degree  surface contact  area to mate with the Roland Gk13 cable Male Plug's large round shield ( the only Ground connection on the Gk13 cable! ( stay tuned) :

QuoteWhich would be the best product to use for cleaning the electronics in a guitar?
Caig De-Oxit is all I use for all electronic contact / volume pot noise and bad switches on Guitars  and Tube sockets in Guitar amps.
A good read from QSC on use of Caig De-Oxit D5 to clean noisy Volume pots

If anyone is interested I bought one of these

http://coolnovelties.co.uk/coolnovelties/audio-hi-fi-cables/115-13-pin-din-male-plug-to-male-plug-midi-cable-roland-gkc-equivalent.html?search_query=13+pin&results=91#/cable_length-3_metres

They seem well made and available in a few sizes. If anything I would say the connectors actually feel better quality than my supplied Roland cable, certainly the locking pin seems more secure. My one is actually black cable and not blue.
The only slight negative I would say is that the cable is a bit stiffer than the Roland and doesn't "flop" quite as easily but then again I only wanted it as a spare and its half the price of the Roland equivalent. (£21.99 including free delivery)

Incidental these people also sell quality locking 13 pin connectors on their own for a seemingly reasonable £3.79 each (free delivery). I bought two of these too and plan to cut my GK-10 in half to make 2 GK-5's.

Fluke

Thanks for the link.

That's a good saving for anyone in the UK.
Like you I just want a gigging spare, so saving a few bob is most welcome :)

Cheers,
Den.

It came today. Seems good and solid. A little bit noisier than my gittler but for one fifth the price an excellent backup

JolietJake

Yeh. Good for the price.
My only cable went bad at a recent gig. (cant believe I've went 2 years without a backup). I'd have killed for one of these then.

I used to use line6 stuff (Variax 500 with Pod XT live) at least you could get away with a standard ethernet cable at a push so always carried one, but obviously you need a proper 13 pin for Roland stuff, so hopefully I'm covered now.

Yah, D5 is a vital $18 bench tool!! Easier than ever to find, too -- but don't forget that Caig makes other voodoo brews.

Speaking of D5 -- while $18 is one of the best prices on the market, someone pointed me to this eBay seller who's sending 'em out for $12.50 -- post-paid. Guess I'll have to stock up now.

(A sound guy says to also use it on potentiometers, rotary switches, & slide switches, but then to apply Caig's F5 Fader Lube. Live & learn, eh?)
