This fact might hep.

* GR-55 GUITAR MODE includes a reduced number of COSM Basses and COSM Bass Amps.

* GR-55 BASS MODE includes a reduced number of COSM Guitars and COSM Guitar Amps.

Should keep you covered if you need to swap between playing Guitar or playing Bass at gigs

All i need now is the detailed midi implimentation document (it's about 30 pages long of data) which descibes the data status for each and every GR-55 patch and system parameter.
I hope Roland will release it sooner than the typical "6 months latter after product release" way they usually do.. :-)

FWIW -as a reference Here is the only released complete VG-99 MIDI Implementation  doc I know of: -there is still no official english release Despite repeated requests I have made with Many Branches of Roland Corp over the years.

This doc did not arrive for public view until a year after the VG-99 was released.
http://lib.roland.co.jp/manual/jp/dl_08-25652/VG-99_IMPL_j1.pdf

I have made an english translation here:
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=2968.msg6671#msg6671

Perhaps the GR-55 will be a combination of the VG-99 MIDI Implementation and the SD-50 MIDI Implementation here:
http://lib.roland.co.jp/support/en/manuals/res/55431083/SD-50_MIDI_Imple_e01.pdf

We Must Press Roland to release the Complete GR-55 MIDI Implementation soon, and not this simple single cut sheet from the back of the manual!!!

+1. I'm all about controlling my gear via cc commands and the implementation chart in the manual has virtually no info on it.

FWIW - on the GR-55, most parameters you want to tweak live are User Assignable, to your own CC# numbers. Much like the GT-10 and VG-99.

Roland GR-55 Patch List - Complete

(see attached file)

Is there (or will there be) a complete list of PCM tones in numerical order yet? I know there's over 900, but all the manual says at this point is "16 Ac. Pianos, 87 Synth Basses", etc. Would like to see a specific list of tones available. Roland US tech support told me they're waiting on this as well as a detailed implementation chart from Japan a week ago.

Don't hold your breath for an official doc in English . As an example, The full MIDI specification for the VG-99 is still only available in Japanese.
Here it is
http://lib.roland.co.jp/manual/jp/dl_08-25652/VG-99_IMPL_j1.pdf

It took me a year to locate the Download link, just browsing www.roland.jp on a weekly basis
It was posted October 2008, a full year after the VG-99's release. Also, despite my repeated requests with Roland US & Roland UK they still claim this doc does not exist
It rather like filing a FOIA with the state department on UFOs.

Since NAMM  I have made a new contact with Roland Germany, so I will keep exploring. But hey I'm definitely NOT working for Roland. I'm just another customer.

I used google to find majority of the tech docs on this forum. You should too.

It's safe to use the Roland SD-50 documentation. Several insiders told Vance and I at NAMM the GR-55 employs the same internal PCM sound engine as the SD-50.

I figure the GR-55 PCM sounds are currently best described in this doc:

This was one of Roland's web sites which I noticed there are more than 2 or 3 with different info and I stumbled across this one that actually had the manual. Now it may be already posted on this site some where but lost in the treads. Also posted because I read here on the forum that Roland had not published one yet they have, just not on all there web sites yet. Again more videos of sounds please.  I will be doing one the day i get mine, trust :0)

That's only 640 sounds.  The GR-55 specs say 910 PCM tones.
(yeah.... like what am I going to do with all those extra sounds any way... like 640 is not enough for me?!?! Heck... my GR-20 and 33 had more sounds than I could use. HA.)

Oh !! THE IRONY OF CONTROLLING THE GR-55 AUDIO PLAYER VIA USB  :-\

Yes even the Audio Player can be controlled remotely via midi system exclusive command, but here is the catch, the Audio Player USB PORT can't work at the same time the USB backpanel port (audio/midi stream).
I have had to resort to using an external midi adapter via the GR-55 '5 pin' midi ports to control the Audio Player. :o

But that does mean the all the GR-55 parameters are remotely controllable via midi sequencer or editor, except I don't recall seeing any mention of the Looper controls.

GUITAR MODE AND BASS MODE PATCHES CAN CO-EXIST WITH-IN THE SAME PATCH.  ;D

After mapping the patch data in both guitar and bass modes, the only differences are the Modeling selections and the synth, guitar and bass models.
These occupy different memory addresses within the same patch, so the same patch would have the same PCM, routing and effect settings in both guitar and bass modes.
Guitar mode will only recognise and modify the guiatr section, bass mode will only reconise and modify the bass mode modeling section only, but both these sections are in both bas or guitar mode saved/exported patches.

Now if only we could find a way to dynamically migrate from Guitar Mode, to Bass Mode and back , on the fly without a reboot.

So I should be able to midi cable a FC300 to the GR55 now and it will work or are we waiting for midi documentation from Roland?

Thanks.

No need for the MIDi spec to do this now,

Simply assign up to 8 GR-55 functions to your own MIDI CC#s, and control them with any MDIi foot controller.

I apologize for being so clueless about the FC300.  With the VG99 it was pretty much plug and play.

From reading the FC300 manual it looks like STANDARD MODE is where I would setup cc's for controlling the GR55.

In the GR55 I should be in EDIT/SYSTEM/MIDI USB/GENERAL  and then EDIT/MASTER/ASSIGN.

Am I on the right track?

Thanks.

Hi
Just thought I would add the MIDI standard assignments English version to Brents info.
These are likely to be used by the 55 for the various parameters.

Thanks for all your help.

Got the FC300 EXP PEDALS to modulate modeling tone volume last night.  Will work on additional controls soon.

This will let me have the GR55 elevated on a chair or stand with FC300 on floor when playing live.

Thanks again.
