Hey everybody, I'm in real need of making my 8 and 88 rack-mountable. I know I can mount them in a sliding tray, but what I really want is to take the guts out of them and put them in a standard 19" rack, 1 or 2U or more if necessary. It's just too awkward for me right now, a lot to carry to gigs not even counting the fact that I'm the vocalist. By the time I'm done setting everything up I'm usually pretty tired. I need to get it into my rack with my axe fx 2 and my switching system.

Any ideas? I've seen the proix stuff, but my japanese is limited to the Mothra song and some pokemon lingo, so no idea about that. I remember there was a kit for the 88 years ago, but it's long gone, I suppose.

I love the V-stuff, I've used it since it came out, but it's been a strange journey of non-standardness, rig-wise, and when I got the 99, well, I think the Roland designers were on acid with that one, form-factor wise. I liked it but I ended up getting rid of it. I'm not even sure I can specifically say why, it just didn't "talk" to me, which is odd 'cause I love the 88 and the 8...

Also, if anyone's got any good pictures of the internals of either unit, I'd sure appreciate it.

Even the Proix (TSC) guys in Japan who did this to Aure's old VG-8 in 1999 no longer offer this service, due to a new 2006 era "PSE Safety law in Japan" which prevents modifications to older gear for safety concerns.

And it was not cheap. I recall pricing in the $1k range for the rack conversion  - and you provided the VG-8.

Wow, Elantric, that is an insane law...! Thanks for the info.

If I could rack them both in one large unit, I think I would pay the $1K. As it stands, I'm just gonna have to experiment. I wish I'd bought the Kesumo one when I had the chance. I've seen the occasional picture of home-done 8's rackmounted, but no details. Thanks for the good luck wishes, if this actually works, I'll post all the details so that others can do it too...!
