QuoteHypothetical alternative to GR-55 for guitar modelling?

Add that today, the Boss GP-10 might be what you seek:

Hi all! First post, so be nice... :)

I've been a MIDI guitarist for a long time (started with a GM-70 and a D-110, "way back when..." and having gone through most Roland guitar synths since then - even endorsed them for a few years). Currently using a GR-55, mostly with a Carvin NS-1 nylon in a fairly busy setup. I usually handle bass, guitar and key parts as well as playing drums with two kick triggers (gets me work as a one man backing band for singer/songwriters who can't tour with a full band and don't want to sequence).

I love the GR-55's ability to do guitar modelling at the same time as the synth stuff, that's its forte AFAIC. I usually use the modelling to cover the bass parts (no delay... unlike the synth stuff), but also often I'll use the 12-string setting to add a high strung guitar or straight octave up (for a kind of mandolin-like sound) to the direct nylon sound.

Increasingly though, I'm shifting the bass strings down and the treble strings up as a workaround to cover both bass and high-strung duties. The problem with that approach is it's a compromise - both share the same modelled sound and the same processing path, which is frustratingly limiting. So I'm toying with the idea of adding in another Roland unit to expand the modelling side of things. But which one?

The GS-10 looked like a good idea until I realised it has no MIDI ports (I mean, WTH Roland?). So looks like I'll have to either get a VG-99 or another GR-55. The VG-99 is not a current model, but is dedicated to modelling. The GR-55 is still current, but only adds one modelled voice and is something else to find floor space for (I mostly work on smaller stages).

TLDR: Need to add more modelling sounds to my GR-55. Which unit do I buy? A VG-99 or a second GR-55? Or something else entirely?

Many here use GP-10 with a US-20 13 pin A/B/Y switch box and control both with MIDI I/O by adding a $45 Rasperry Pi embedded Computer to the GP-10

or PrimovaSound MIDX-10

But a used VG-99 cool too - depends on your available stage footprint at live gig

Thanks. I'll take a look at that, but I am trying to avoid getting too much more complex, so something with MIDI built in in first prize.
In case it matters (and plus to show off a little ;D)... The stuff around the drummer's throne is the gigging setup.

Either Antares ATG-1 or Antares Internal DSP Board works with all GK 13 pin Nylon guitars with Piezo PIckups too.
